Last month we talked about the importance of tradition and community here at Ken’s, and how these values inform everything that we do, both inside and outside the store. One of the ways we demonstrate this is through the Bill Hunt Memorial Scholarship award, which is presented each year to a Garland High School senior who we feel embodies the integrity and character of Bill Hunt.
Bill was the first hired employee at Ken’s, back in 1964, and quickly became an important part of the Ken’s family. The strength of his character was evident through his work ethic and professionalism, and during his time at Ken’s he brought instant credibility to the store. Sadly, his life was cut short at the age of 27. To honor his memory, Ken and the senior class at GHS decided to start a scholarship in his name. This year marks the 29th time the scholarship has been awarded to a GHS student, and we’re thrilled to be able to continue the tradition in 2019.
We’re proud to announce that the recipient of this year’s Bill E. Hunt Memorial Scholarship Award is Miguel Velasco Davila. Miguel is currently graduating from Garland High School, where he is on the student council and ranks in the top ten percent of his senior class. He is also a football player and participates in many after-school activities. He will be attending college this fall to study engineering.
We feel this scholarship is a great way not only to show respect for one of the finest employee’s Ken’s has ever had, but also to express our appreciation for the hard work and high standards maintained by the recipients of this award. From everyone here at Ken’s Man’s Shop, we wholeheartedly congratulate Miguel, and we wish him all the best for the future!
