What do you get when you combine a sports coat with a shirt? A shirt jacket!
Your haberdashers have been showing these for a couple of years, and with each passing season they’ve become increasingly important as a wardrobe staple. Here are a few scenarios of when and how to incorporate a shirt jacket into your outfits.
You’re going on date night and meeting up with some other couples. This casual evening calls for a pair of jeans with either a sweater or a long sleeve crew knit. Throw on a shirt jacket to give the outfit a polished look without being overly dressed.
You’re heading into work for the day, but not necessarily meeting with clients. You’re wearing your favorite pair of Brax 5-pockets, paired with a button-front shirt that has a neat pattern and colored buttons. A simple shirt jacket on top will keep you warm for the season, but will also help reinforce the appearance of authority and professionalism.
You’re heading out of town for the weekend, and you want to be comfortable both during the day and at night. You need clothes that will not wrinkle during travel, and that don’t look too dressed up. Pair a shirt jacket with a light knit in the daytime, and then change into a fusion dress shirt with a pair of slacks when meeting later for drinks and dinner.
Hats Are a “Thing” Again
Bailey fedoras have arrived at the haberdashery! We will be stocking black, navy, and mink for the fall season, but there are a multitude of other colors that can be special ordered for you. These fedoras are water-repellent, dressy enough for any occasion or outfit, and perfect for our Dallas climate.
Have you noticed that many of our city leaders beginning to don hats again? It is a statement and a style wrapped into one.
My father, Ken, wore a fedora every day. He wasn’t recognized if he wasn’t wearing it! His fedora is proudly on permanent display at our front desk.

Suit Yourself
Our suit sales have been outstanding! I repeat, our suits have been selling extremely well.
Yes, you read that correctly. Gents are purchasing suits again for their personal and business use. There are so many occasions where a good suit will take you much farther than a sport coat with a 5-pocket jean. It’s more than just the appearance — it’s about the confidence you feel and the respect you command when you walk into a room.
Our gents are flying all over the country to attend meetings. Once again, many of them are choosing to wear suits for a confidence boost.
Interestingly, not all men are choosing to wear ties with their suits. A small percentage are opting instead for colored-button shirts and a pocket circle to complete the look.
In October, I created a double-breasted patterned suit that is meant to be worn with a mock-neck sweater in lieu of neckwear. This is another great option for the fall and winter.
Tie or no, It is refreshing to see our men dressing up. Come see the possibilities for yourself!
A Strapping Good Time
Connor Sambrookes was in the shop two Thursdays ago with his brand Brookes & Hyde. He brought his entire lineup of belt straps, and there were very few left by 6pm!
Connor and his protégé finish each strap by hand. We have reordered and will be receiving their new holiday collection very soon. The collection includes semi-custom straps in a multitude of colors, skins, and detailing that will complement all your outfits.
We start with size 44, then measure your belted waist. It takes less than five minutes for us to cut and put together your newest (and coolest) belt. Come on by to get a handmade belt cut just for you!
